FUGITIVE - Maniac (EP released on 20 Buck Spin on 28/4/23) (Thrash/Crossover)

Before I even say more, I could simply just say, ’go and order this as soon as you can’. If you like thrash, hardcore, metallic hc, or osdm/hm2, then Maniac is a worthy EP indeed. Yeah man, it’s really good, but a given, considering the bands the members hail from. I used to play all of these kinda bands with hardcore, crust punk, d-beat, and punk on my old shitty shows back in the day. It was how I came across bands like FUGITIVE and I always love bands combining both punk/hc aspects with thrash & metal. Always turns into a nice bottle of mosh.

The EP opens up with The Javelin, an introductory track to set the tone and pace.

Maniac, the title song of the EP is a raging thrasher with a nice hardcore background to add to the aggression and dirt of the song. Vocally, I’m already getting the Obituary vibe and there is a little of the sound too.

Hells Half Acre is a great pit song with a good break down halfway through and plenty of strong riffage, and nicely timed vocals, which are continued on the next track Neutralized. It screams for a circle pit in my opinion. I could easily see myself running around to this covered in sweat and directing the mosh legions in our little waltz.

Maniac  is rounded off with a solid cover of Bathory’s Raise The Dead, which keeps up the mosh vibe.

For those concerned with production and what not, audio quality is very good and clear, and the stench isn’t sacrificed. It still sounds nice and heavy, and raw enough!

Verdict: I’m no stranger to any of the bands all the members are from. I played them back on my former radio shows, so I knew what to expect. I wasn’t disappointed. Yes, I did shit myself again with sheer enjoyment at the beautiful concoction of extreme metal and hardcore punk. I am already looking forward to hearing what FUGITIVE do next and I highly recommend Maniac. If you love thrash, hardcore, and hardcore punk, especially when those styles are utilized properly, then pre-order Maniac as soon as you can. It’s pretty awesome!
