INTERVIEW WITH RE-ARMED (MELODIC DEATH METAL/THRASH)

Answered by Jouni, Juhana, Allan, and Iiro.

1. How would you describe your music?
Hmm, I think it's some kind of mixture melodic death metal and thrash metal.

- Jouni

2. What gave you the idea for the single title?
Life itself, basically evolution, I mean in the end we are just small part of the way more bigger story if you think about planet earths history. It doesn't really matter what happens to us, life forms its way again and again. It's kind of comfortable fact. At the same time lyrics are about positive changes in our social system.

- Jouni

3. Do you work together with others in the writing process?
Yes, this song was mainly made by our guitar players, but all in the band put thought in when we were writing song and building its structure etc.

- Juhana

4. How much time to do you take record songs?

We started recording in the end of April. We got drums done in one evening, basses during next afternoon. After a month we recorded and reamped all guitars in two days. Another month after that we went for vocal recordings, which didn’t take more than two days for two vocalists, backup vocals and group vocals. If I remember right all the recordings including symphony arrangements were ready in the end of the Summer, so doing the math it took less than three months. We have our good pal Harri at studio with us who makes the sessions even more pleasing with easygoing atmosphere, so we don't have to hurry at all.

- Allan

5. Does this release differ from past music releases? How?

I think, this song has something "more" in it, maybe it's more colorful and powerful. It's more brutal, fast, melodic and catchier than previous ones - some sort of hybrid.

- Juhana

6. Do you like to change it up for each release with lyrical themes?

Yes, these days we are talking about positive things and changes, we need to remember that all the changes won’t happen without bad things etc. Plus we are wondering about how wonderful universe is, I mean how complex life is in all its forms. Earlier records were full of corruption, greed and manipulation – more about dystopian world views. Let’s say, more about questioning everything that’s man made, instead trying to find some solutions.

- Jouni

7. Where do you draw your influences and inspirations from?
All my life I’ve been listening to metal / heavy music, and had these periods of time in which I get into one or two great bands, listening those bands like 90% of the time I listen to music. As a guitarist I become a fan of their guitarists of course, and find out what makes them recognizable, kinda their signature. And here comes the deep part: I think I just widen my “inner library”, with all their playing styles, technics, etc. without acknowledging it, I think… I can’t really relate myself to another guitarist...

But lately, for last few years I’ve been much into movie soundtracks. The mood varies, there are lots of layers, and I don’t always like to listen to hard extreme metal stuff right from the morning… peaceful soundtracks gives me good start for each day.

- Allan

8. What has been the most enjoyable thing you have done as a
musician/singer?

For me there are couple things over others. Finishing drum recordings for our latest album and finally releasing new material, speaking about this “Built to Last” -single. Playing live for hundreds of people. And another great moment was at our “Territorial Expansion” -tour in China, when we played on big stages at two big outdoor festivals. Of course I have lots of good memories from our tours.

- Iiro

9. What do you feel is the biggest challenge going forward with your career?
Money and time. Especially first one controls so many things and keeps doors closed or opens them – sad but true. Here in Finland, we have so many great bands. Unfortunately, only some of them get the chance to go tour with financial support from labels etc. And most of us need to find time and make money with our daily jobs where we work for living like everyone else. I don`t say it`s wrong or nothing new, but it could be easier. Basically, it goes like this: Make the whole nine yards by yourselves for the next record and tours.

- Iiro

10. What do you enjoy outside of music?
I guess we are normal guys, but what is normal? And is anyone normal in this world? Heheh..

- Jouni
